The UV calibration tile is a critical component for ensuring the accuracy and consistency of your spectrophotometer. Proper handling, maintenance, and correct application during calibration are essential for obtaining reliable measurement results. The following guidelines outline the best practices for caring for your UV tile and performing accurate calibrations.

Proper handling and maintenance

Use the correct UV tile:

Keep it clean:

  • Gently wipe the surface with a clean, lint-free, non-scuffing cloth.
  • For stubborn spots, use a specialized lens wipe moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Avoid using abrasive materials or household cleaners.

Handle with care:

  • Always hold the tile by its edges or protective casing.
  • Avoid touching the measurement surface to prevent oil and dirt contamination.
  • Remove the tile from the instrument aperture without sliding or rotating it to prevent abrasion.

Store properly:

  • Store the tile in its protective case & bag when not in use.
  • Please keep it away from direct sunlight and other sources of UV radiation (IMPORTANT for validity).

Calibration best practices

  • Calibrate frequently: Some manufacturers recommend calibrating daily, especially before critical measurements, to maintain accuracy.
  • Place correctly: Ensure the tile is positioned correctly against the instrument's aperture, usually in its cradle.
  • Be patient: Do not remove the spectrophotometer from the tile until the calibration is complete.
